How Much Is Every Kobe Bryant Rookie Card Worth?

Kobe is easily the second most collected player—after His Airness. With the Laker fan base behind him, and many others respecting his Black Mamba mantra and playing style, every serious collector should have some Kobe rookies in their collection.

Kobe Bryant’s rookie cards range in price from $15 for a raw Upper Deck Collector’s Choice up to $22,000 for a PSA 10 E-X2000!

Kobe Bryant Rookie Card Values

Here’s the ranking, from most expensive PSA 10 value to least (based on eBay’s latest sold comps):

  1. 1996-97 E-X2000 Kobe Bryant #30
  2. 1996-97 Topps Chrome Kobe Bryant #138
  3. 1996-97 Flair Showcase Row 2 Kobe Bryant #31
  4. 1996-97 Fleer Metal Kobe Bryant #137
  5. 1996-97 Fleer Ultra Kobe Bryant #52
  6. 1996-97 Z-Force Kobe Bryant #142
  7. 1996-97 Topps Kobe Bryant #138
  8. 1996-97 Topps Finest Kobe Bryant #74
  9. 1996-97 Bowman’s Best Kobe Bryant #R23
  10. 1996-97 Fleer Kobe Bryant #203
  11. 1996-97 SkyBox Premium Kobe Bryant #55
  12. 1996-97 SP Kobe Bryant #134
  13. 1996-97 Upper Deck Kobe Bryant #58
  14. 1996-97 UD3 Kobe Bryant #19
  15. 1996-97 Hoops Kobe Bryant #281
  16. 1996-97 Collector’s Choice Kobe Bryant #267

1. 1996-97 E-X2000 Kobe Bryant #30

  • PSA 10 value: $22,000
  • PSA 9 Value: $950
  • Raw Value: $150

This most valuable Kobe rookie is a stunning card that looks even better in person! The green pops around an action shot of Kobe with the ball. The blue sky behind Kobe is an interesting choice, but the color pops.

Those foil borders are subject to dings, so it’s rare to find this card in mint condition. That’s why you see such high values on this card…and a crazy premium for the PSA 10 ($23k is the cheapest I found currently for sale on eBay).

2. 1996-97 Topps Chrome Kobe Bryant #138

  • PSA 10 Value: $4,200
  • PSA 9 Value: $1,250
  • Raw Value: $650

Many see this as the best of all the Kobe rookies. The regular Topps version is iconic, and this is simply taking that one and upping the quality significantly.

And who among us isn’t nostalgic for Topps Chrome?

The raw value here is actually much higher than the E-X2000, which shows that people seem to prefer this card (from a purely hobby perspective). However, they are a bit easier (although not easy) to get high grades on.

3. 1996-97 Flair Showcase Row 2 Kobe Bryant #31

  • PSA 10 Value: $2,000
  • PSA 9 Value: $200
  • Raw Value: $72
  • Shop on eBay

I’ve not typically been a fan of the Flair Showcase, but I may be the only one—as evidenced by its 3rd place ranking on this list!

With a PSA 10 value that gives a 10x bump over the PSA 9, you’re lucky to find this card in your childhood collection…but even luckier if it’s somehow in gem mint condition.

4. 1996-97 Fleer Metal Kobe Bryant #137

  • PSA 10 Value: $1,200
  • PSA 9 Value: $75
  • Raw Value: $21

The PSA 10 of this card astonishes with a 16x multiplier over the 9! With raw values at a meager $18, it’s evident that while you can find this card aplenty, it’s nearly impossible to find in perfect condition.

The nostalgia factor is high here, with a card that screams the 90s. The winning smile, plus Kobe showing off his new Lakers duds makes for an overall impressive card.

5. 1996-97 Fleer Ultra Kobe Bryant #52

  • PSA 10 Value: $1,200
  • PSA 9 Value: $130
  • Raw Value: $23

Again, we’re seeing a pattern here: Low raw value, serious multiplier to the PSA 9 value…and then it launches into the stratosphere with PSA 10 prices!

The Fleer Ultra brand was a sought after rookie card and wasn’t hard to find. With a cool action shot and that trademark calligraphy, this card found in PSA 10 condition is one of the most sought after Kobe cards of all time.

6. 1996-97 Z-Force Kobe Bryant #142

  • PSA 10 Value: $720
  • PSA 9 Value: $75
  • Raw Value: $20

We’re now dropping under 4 figures with our PSA 10 prices, with this controversial rookie card. I know that many collectors that don’t care for this card because it’s too busy. Others say it’s got a fun 90s feel to it and this card stands out in a crowd.

Either way, getting this in a 10 adds a lot of value to your Kobe collection.

7. 1996-97 Topps Kobe Bryant #138

  • PSA 10 Value: $810
  • PSA 9 Value: $150
  • Raw value: $68

When I think “Kobe rookie,” this is the one that pops in my head. I think many agree, as we can see a raw value much, much higher than cards several places higher on this list. The relative ease of a 10 and the high pop count lower the PSA 10 value, but doesn’t diminish the fact that this is the most collected Kobe rookie ever.

8. 1996-97 Topps Finest Kobe Bryant #74

  • PSA 10 Value: $550
  • PSA 9 Value: $140
  • Raw Value: $85

We come across another brand that carries a ton of nostalgia with Topps Finest! To peel, or not to peel, that is the question!

This is another highly produced, yet highly sought after card. Every Kobe collector wants this card, which is why we see a $65 raw value—yet it’s being easy to find bumps it’s PSA 10 value down to 8th on this list.

9. 1996-97 Bowman’s Best Kobe Bryant #R23

  • PSA 10 Value: $350
  • PSA 9 Value: $80
  • Raw Value: $50

This is the card with the second highest PSA 9 pop count on this list. However, Bowman in basketball simply doesn’t carry quite as much juice as say, football. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a conversation about Bowman’s basketball cards.

Truthfully, it’s not the prettiest card on this list, which is another reason why it’s bumped down by many of the more popular cards despite it’s high quality production.

10. 1996-97 Fleer Kobe Bryant #203

  • PSA 10 Value: $510
  • PSA 9 Value: $55
  • Raw Value: $20

We’re starting to get into the cards with relatively low PSA 10 values, showing that these brands simply don’t carry the value of the others. This is a lower production card, but the Fleer brand keeps this card from dropping further down this list.

11. 1996-97 SkyBox Premium Kobe Bryant #55

  • PSA 10 Value: $320
  • PSA 9 Value: $70
  • Raw Value: $24

The boring font plus the whatever-that-is background make this a lower-end Kobe rookie card. We’re only seeing a 4.5x multiplier from PSA 9 to a 10, showing that there is less demand for these. However, Skybox Premium is another one of those nostalgic brands, so the card carries some decent value.

12. 1996-97 SP Kobe Bryant #134

  • PSA 10 Value: $250
  • PSA 9 Value: $65
  • Raw Value: $15

SP would go on to become a more sought after product in future years, but we weren’t there yet with this rookie set. The blue sidebar is a strange addition to the design (perhaps a jersey match would have been better), and the photography isn’t life-changing. This is a lower-end Kobe rookie for sure.

13. 1996-97 Upper Deck Kobe Bryant #58

  • PSA 10 Value: $280
  • PSA 9 Value: $70
  • Raw Value: $20

I remember this one being a fun one to collect. Upper Deck, combined with Kobe’s smile made this a fun card as a kid to go after. Of course, that isn’t so much the case today, perhaps with him not being on a court and not even in a jersey, for that matter. There’s not purple or gold anywhere on this card!

14. 1996-97 UD3 Kobe Bryant #19

  • PSA 10 Value: $280
  • PSA 9 Value: $80
  • Raw Value: $33

Interestingly, this card has the lowest multiplier from a PSA 9 to a PSA 10 (a little over 4x increase) besides Topps Chrome. But we’re playing in a different ballpark with this card. That low multiplier shows that PSA 10s weren’t hard to come by, and weren’t all that popular.

Despite having a decent design, the UD3 brand simply hasn’t held it’s value.

15. 1996-97 Hoops Kobe Bryant #281

  • PSA 10 Value: $280
  • PSA 9 Value: $70
  • Raw Value: $13

Once a cheap brand, always a cheap brand…at least is the case with Hoops. I distinctly remember not really caring that much about Hoops cards as a kid, and I still don’t care much about today’s Hoops brand. Seems like collectors agree, pushing this card near the bottom of the list.

16. 1996-97 Collector’s Choice Kobe Bryant #267

  • PSA 10 Value: $175
  • PSA 9 Value: $55
  • Raw Value: $15

It’s not hard to see why this is the lowest card on the list. With a low-quality design and feel to them, these cards weren’t exactly in high demand. However, it is still a Kobe rookie…so there will always be some value here.
